The Sweet Briar College Vixens beat the Panthers of Ferrum College 3-1 at the Roanoke Maroon Classic on Friday, Sept.5 in the first of two Friday games for the Vixens. Game scores were 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, and 25-17. Sophomore Cassidy Jones (Rustburg, VA) had a team high of 13 kills while Sophomore Ashley Winters (Mechanicsville, VA) and senior Dori Rucker (Virginia Beach, VA) contributed 7 and 6 kills respectively for the team win.

Laura Jett, a sophomore from Littleton, CO, led the team defensively with 19 digs, followed by Ashley Winters with 18, and sophomore Brooke Moody (Concord, VA) helped the team with her 22 assists.

Game two for this tournament matched the Vixens against the Shenandoah University Hornets. The closely contested match favored the Hornets 3-2 over the Vixens with game scores of 25-17, 19-25, 25-21, 25-27, and 13-15 for the deciding match.

Player highlights include Brooke Moody with 23 overall assists and first year player Alexis Rukenbrod (Laurel, MD)with 22. Again, Laura Jett provided solid defensive play with a total of 30 digs against the Hornets.

Sweet Briar will continue tournament play today, Saturday September 6 against Methodist College at 12:00 pm, and Meredith at 2:00 pm.
