Sweet Briar College Friends of the Library recently reached its goal of 200 members. According to Joyce Kramar, Friends coordinator at the Mary Helen Cochran Library, membership hadn’t surpassed 200 since 1998.

In the 1980s, she said, there were sometimes as many as 380 members, but in the 90s the numbers dropped to the 200s. “Our goal was to get back to two hundred, which we did this year,” Kramar said. “So we’re going to go for more next year.”

Over the past year, Friends of the Library raised approximately $22,000 from membership dues, nearly all of which will be used to purchase books.

Memberships range from $5 a year for a student membership to $3,000, payable over six years, for a lifetime membership. A “regular” membership is $25 a year and Alumnae Clubs can join the Friends for $30 a year.
