It came down to the No. 4 singles match on Saturday morning, as Sweet Briar tennis edged Randolph College 5-4 in the first of two consolation round robin matches for the Vixens.
With the match tied at 4-4, first-year Ebie Baker (Farmville, Va./Prince Edward Co.) battled back from a first-set loss at No. 4 to take the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and hand Sweet Briar the win.
Baker and her teammates then continued their winning ways in the second round robin match of the day, wrapping up play in the tournament with a 5-0 win over Emory & Henry.
Senior Caroline Byrd (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy), playing in her last match, picked up her seventh-straight win in singles to finish her senior season 10-4 overall at No. 2. She also ends the season 10-4 overall at No. 1 doubles with partner sophomore Virginia Edahl (Charlotte, N.C./Providence).
