Vixen softball played host to Randolph-Macon College on Friday afternoon in a conference match-up at Vixen Field. Both games went to the visitors by scores of 11-3 and 5-2. With the sweep, Randolph-Macon improves to 23-12 overall, while Sweet Briar falls to 9-26.
Vixens junior Melissa Viar (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst Co.), first-year Ellie Witt (Salem, Va./Northside), and senior Beth Anderson (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) combined to knock in the three Sweet Briar runs in game one.
Anderson put Sweet Briar on the board in the second inning with a RBI double, which scored Witt. Two more runs crossed the plate for the Vixens in the sixth as first-year Alyssa Montanez (Lambsburg, Va./Carroll Co.) reached on an error. Singles from first-year Amey Landreth (Disputanta, Va./Prince George) and senior Brittney Berry (Tappahannock, Va./Essex) loaded the bases.
With the bases loaded, Viar singled to center to bring in Montanez, followed by a fielder’s choice from Witt to score Landreth.
Game two saw six of the seven runs scored by the two teams come in the third inning. Randolph-Macon plated four in the top half of the third only to be answered by two from the Vixens to close the gap to two.
Viar knock in the first Vixen run of game two as she picked up her second RBI of the twinbill. First-year Jordan Pugh (Afton, Va./Nelson Co.) brought home Sweet Briar’s second run with a two-out double.
Sweet Briar wraps up the regular season on Sunday with a home contest against Randolph College. The fist pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
