BLACKSBURG, Va. — Sweet Briar fencing placed five fencers in the top 20 at the 2008 VIWFA Tournament on April 13. The tournament featured fencers from Hollins, UVA, Virginia Tech, James Madison, Radford and Mary Baldwin.
Fencer Kaelyn Leake (Sebastopol, Calif.) was the top finish for Sweet Briar, as she finished tied for third in open foil. Joining her in the top-20 for the weapon were Jessica Pilgrim (Mobile, Ala.) who placed sixth and Sarah Kate Phillips (Chesapeake, Va.) who placed 17th.
Vixen Leslie Price (Salem, Va.) finished 10th in open saber while Cheryl Seaver (Burtonsville, Md.) earned 11th in open epee.
Two first-year fencers, Phillips and Carina Finn (Tuckerton, N.J.), captured wins in their pools. Finn finished 21st in open epee.
