Sweet Briar softball suffered two losses at the hands of No. 6 Lynchburg College on Wednesday as the Hornets swept the conference twinbill by scores of 17-1 and 9-0.
Sweet Briar was held scoreless through four of game one, until Vixen Melissa Viar (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) knocked an RBI single to right field in the fifth inning. Sophomore Blair Mullally (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) scored on the play. She led off the fifth with a single and moved around to third on a double by first-year Amey Landreth (Disputanta, Va./Prince George).
Mullally went 2-for-2 in game one with two singles and a run scored. Senior Brittney Berry (Tappahannock, Va./Essex) also knocked two hits in the game.
Lynchburg pitchers Barbie Miles and Lauren Ewing combined to pitch a one-hitter in game two. First-year Ellie Witt (Salem, Va./Northside) erased the no-hitter with a single in the second inning.
Sweet Briar continues its ODAC schedule on Saturday, traveling to Emory & Henry for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
