Vixen softball split its doubleheader with Guilford College on Saturday as the two teams met in a conference doubleheader. Sweet Briar came from behind in game one to pick up its first conference win by a 3-2 score. Game two went to the Quakers 14-1.
Sweet Briar trialed by one run when it came to bat in the home half of the seventh inning. Pinch-hitter sophomore Nikki Taylor (Wendell, N.C./East Wake) was hit by a pitch. First-year Amey Landreth (Disputanta, Va./Prince George) then joined Taylor on the base paths with a single. She moved to second on a fielder’s choice from senior Brittney Berry (Tappahannock, Va./Essex).
Junior Melissa Viar (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) then hit a single to leftfield, which got by the fielder. Landreth came around on the single to tie the game, followed by Berry who came home as the winning run on the error.

First-year pitcher Megan Franklin (Powhatan, Va./Blessed Sacrament Huguenot) earned the win in the circle for the Vixens. She pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the late innings to keep her team within striking distance of the win.
Guilford’s bats came alive in the second game as the Quakers scored 14 runs on 14 hits. Charissa Duncan hit her second home run of the day in the game. She was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
First-year Ellie Witt (Salem, Va./Northside) plated the Vixen run in game two. She was 1-for-1 in the game with a walk.
With the split, Sweet Briar moves to 8-17 overall, Guilford moves to 16-15-1.
Sweet Briar travels to Roanoke tomorrow for a 1 p.m. conference match-up.
