FERRUM, Va. – Six goals from first-year Stewart Hulfish (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) helped Vixen lacrosse improve its record to 2-3 on Tuesday as Sweet Briar handed host Ferrum College a 16-6 loss.

Sweet Briar jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first frame thanks to unanswered goals from Hulfish, junior Meredith Newman (Charlottesville, Va./Tandem) and senior Ellie Donahue (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal). The Vixens ended the half netting two goals for every goal scored by the Panthers to go into break up 8-3.
The second half started much the same for the Vixens with Hulfish and Newman putting back-to-back tallies on the board. The pair scored four goals to open the half followed by a free-position goal from Donahue, which pushed the Vixens ahead by 10.
Hulfish and Newman each ended with seven points as Newman added two assists and Hulfish one. Junior Megan Behrle (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) led the team in the assist column with three.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Weisbrich (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) collected the win in goal for Sweet Briar. She turned back 11 in the cage.
Sweet Briar returns home tomorrow to take on Roanoke College at 4:30 p.m.
