VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — After its conference opener was washed out on Wednesday, Sweet Briar softball opened its conference schedule on the road at Virginia Wesleyan on Friday afternoon. Both games of the doubleheader went to the home side by scores of 10-2 and 8-0.
Senior Beth Anderson (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and first-year Ellie Witt (Salem, Va./Northside) pushed across both runs in game one with RBI singles in the fourth inning. The Vixen fourth began with senior Brittney Berry (Tappahannock, Va./Essex) reaching first via an error. She was replaced on the base path by first-year Amey Landreth (Disputanta, Va./Prince George) who hit a fielder’s choice. Junior Melissa Viar (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) followed with a single to right. Consecutive singles from Anderson and Witt brought home Landreth and Viar.
The Vixens were held to one hit by the Marlins in game two. Junior Meagan Bell (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) broke up the no-hitter in the fifth inning with a single.
The Vixens are home on Tuesday as they welcome Randolph College at 3:30 p.m.
