MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Home run balls once again powered the Vixens to victory on Wednesday as Sweet Briar softball defeated Mansfield University 2-0 in day three of the Snowbird Tournament.
Both Vixen runs came via solo shots in the first inning. Senior Brittney Berry (Tappahannock, Va./Essex) leadoff the game with a solo home run. She was followed three batters later by first-year Ellie Witt’s (Salem, Va./Northside) second home run in as many days.
First-year Megan Franklin (Powhatan, Va./Blessed Sacrament Huguenot) was the game winner for Sweet Briar. She fanned three Mountaineers to pick up her first career shutout.
Sweet Briar’s winning streak came to a holt in the day’s second game. Division II opponent University of Charleston (WVa.) took the game by an 8-0 score.
The Vixens wrap up the four day tournament on Thursday with games against Penn State Harrisburg and Arcadia.
