MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sweet Briar softball made it three wins in a row at the Snowbird Tournament, thanks to a strong showing at the plate on Tuesday. The Vixen wins came over Penn State Altoona and Sage College by scores of 11-3 and 9-1, respectively.
The Vixens belted out 16 hits against Altoona including home runs by senior Beth Anderson (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and first-year Jordan Pugh (Afton, Va./Nelson County). Each went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.
Anderson recorded four RBIs on the day, while Pugh knocked in two. Also picking up four RBIs in the game for Sweet Briar was sophomore Blair Mullally (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) who was 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Sweet Briar bats stayed hot as the team faced Sage College in the day’s second game. Pugh belted another home run and added five RBIs to her day’s total in the game. The freshman finished with a breakout day, going 6-for-7 with seven RBIs, two home runs and three doubles.
Also hitting the long ball was first-year Ellie Witt (Salem, Va./Northside). She was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Benefiting from the strong hitting were sophomore Nikki Taylor (Wendell, N.C./East Wake) and first-year Megan Franklin (Powhatan, Va./Blessed Sacrament Huguenot). Taylor picked up the win in the circle against Altoona, while Franklin pitched the win over Sage.
Sweet Briar, now 3-8, will face Mansfield and the University of Charleston (WVa.) tomorrow.
