RADFORD, Va. — Sweet Briar swimmers took four top-five finishes Friday as action got underway at the 2008 ODAC/Atlantic States Swimming Championships at Radford University.
Relay swimmers Tori Marshall '10 (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Kelsey Smith '11(Gainesville, Va./Brentsville), Jennifer Milby '08 (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) and Melissa Simpson '11 (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) captured the first points of the night for the Vixens, swimming a season-best 1:45.88 in the 200 Y. freestyle relay to take third overall.
Sweet Briar also finished third in the final race of the opening night, as Vixens Simpson, Hayley Hill '10(Southampton, Bermuda/Bermuda School for Girls), Hannah Hesser '10 (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) and Stephanie Perks '09 (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) finished the 400 Y. medley relay with a time of 4:18.58.
In individual events, Hesser and Simpson were top finishers. Simpson was second among ODAC swimmers and third overall in the 200 Y. individual medley, setting a new school record of 2:16.56, while Hesser captured third overall with a season-best 5:22.60 in the 500 Y. freestyle.
Swimming continues in Radford tomorrow morning with prelims, followed by finals in the evening.
