ASHLAND – Seven points separated Sweet Briar and the defending conference champions on Saturday, as the Vixens dropped a close 106-99 decision at Randolph-Macon College.
The Vixens took three races and came within 2/10th of a second of taking two more. Individual event winners for Sweet Briar were sophomores Hayley Hill (Bermuda) and Hannah Hesser (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal). Hill won the 100 Y. breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:16.67. She also was third in the 200 Y. individual medley (2:32.87).

Hesser captured first in the 1000 Y. freestyle with a season-best time of 11:19.96 and placed second in the 100 Y. butterfly (1:03.44) and 500 Y. freestyle (5:29.46).
Junior Stephanie Perks (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) and sophomore Tori Marshall (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) also swam their best times of the season against the Yellow Jackets. Perks finished second in the 200 Y. freestyle with a season-best 2:07.38. She also captured second-place points in the 100 Y. freestyle (58.10). Marshall’s season-best performance came in the 200 Y. freestyle as well. She finished third with a time of 2:08.87.
Sweet Briar finished second in the 50 Y. freestyle as senior Jennifer Milby (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) swam the event in 27.51. She also collected second-place points for the Vixens in the 100 Y. backstroke (1:07.20).
First-year Melissa Simpson (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) placed second in the 200 Y. individual medley (2:21.29) and third in the 100 Y. freestyle (59.20).
The Vixens were once again strong in the relay events, finishing the meet with a win in the 200 Y. freestyle relay as Milby, Marshall, Perks and Simpson touched the wall first with a time of 1:46.40.
Sweet Briar returns home on Wednesday, concluding its dual-meet schedule by hosting Hollins University and Bridgewater College at 7 p.m.
