FLORIDA - Sweet Briar swimming faced two top Division III swimming programs on Thursday, taking on Grinnell College and Connecticut College in an exhibition meet in Florida.
Season best times were swum by several Vixens. Among the top-five finishers were sophomore Hannah Hesser (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal), first-year Melissa Simpson (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) and the relay team of Simpson, junior Stephanie Perks (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier), sophomore Tori Marshall (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), and senior Jennifer Milby (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis).
Hesser captured second in the 500 Y. freestyle with a time of 5:32.88 and finished fourth in the 100 Y. butterfly (1:04.97).
Simpson collected two fourth-place finishes, taking fourth in the 200 Y. individual medley (2:22.50) and fourth in the 100 Y. backstroke (1:07.10).
Simpson, Perks, Marshall and Milby touched the wall third in the 200 Y. freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.79.
The Vixens return from their training trip this weekend to begin the spring semester. The 07-08 season continues Jan. 19 at Salem College.
