For her senior voice recital, Gretchen McDonough, a soprano from Portsmouth, R.I., will sing works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, George Frideric Handel, Hugo Wolf, Samuel Barber and other classical composers.
Gretchen McDonoughThe concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 in Sweet Briar College’s Memorial Chapel. Admission is free.
A history major with Spanish and music minors, McDonough has taken voice lessons since she was as student at Portsmouth Abbey High School, from which she graduated in 2004. At Sweet Briar, she has studied under Marcia Thom and Mimi Hermosa.
The recital will include, among others, “Let the Bright Seraphim” and “Oh, Had I Jubal’s Lyre,” by Handel, and an “alleluia” from Mozart’s “Exsulate, Jubilate.” Anna Billias will accompany on piano, and senior Laurel Sanders will join McDonough for a duet from “Hansel and Gretel” and a rendition of Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria.”
“Gretchen has been a wonderful student and is a lovely performer,” voice instructor Marcia Thom said. “The recital should give the listeners a wonderful evening of beautiful music.”
