LEXINGTON — Vixen Swimming earned a split Friday evening in Lexington, defeating Emory & Henry College 75-19 while falling to host Washington and Lee University 55-39 in ODAC swimming action.
First-year Melissa Simpson (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) led the way for the Vixens with a first-place finish in the 100 Y. backstroke (1:04.92) and a second-place finish in the 200 Y. individual medley (2:20.48).
Three other Vixens earned second-place points in the meet. Sophomore Hannah Hesser (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal)came home second in the 1000 Y. freestyle and the 100 Y. butterfly in 11:36.04 and 1:05.00, respectively. Sophomore Tori Marshall (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) captured second in two freestyle events, taking second in the 50 Y. freestyle with a time of 27.45 and the 100 Y. freestyle with a time of 59.60. Junior Stephanie Perks (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) took second in the 200 Y. freestyle (2:10.00).

The 200 Y. freestyle relay team of Hesser, Marshall, Jennifer Milby ’08 (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), and Simpson swam a season-best 1:48.11 to end the meet with a conference split.
Sweet Briar, now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference, return home on Sunday to take on non-conference the College of Notre Dame of Maryland at 11 a.m.
