Vixen swimming hit the pool with a splash Friday evening, opening the 2007-08 swimming season with a 105-70 win over visiting Randolph College.
Sweet Briar captured top points in three of the first five events to jump out to a 57-31 lead at the first break. The Vixen swimmers added two more first-place finishes and three second place touches to expand their lead and take the meet by 35 points.
First-year Melissa Simpson (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) led the way with three first-place finishes. Simpson swam the final leg of the 200 M. medley relay event which touched first with a time of 2:16.01. She also came home first in the 200 M. individual medley (2:37.16) and the 100 M. backstroke (1:12.63).
Senior Jennifer Milby (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), junior Stephanie Perks (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) and sophomore Hannah Hesser (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) joined Simpson in winning the medley relay event. Perks also captured first in the 200 M. freestyle with a time of 2:25.44. Vixen Tori Marshall (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) rounded out the wins in the 100 M. butterfly.
Sweet Briar, 1-0 in the conference, hits the road on Nov. 3 as the team travels to North Carolina to swim against Greensboro College and Hollins University.
