One goal proved to be the difference Saturday as visiting Wilson College broke a 1-1 tie with just over 10 minutes to play to hand host Sweet Briar College a 2-1 loss in non-conference field hockey action.
Wilson jumped out to a 1-0 lead to start the second half, thanks to a Sweet Briar own goal at 38:01. The Vixens responded with a tally of their own 19 minutes later, when first-year Erika Magee (Petersburg, Va./Prince George) one-touched a feed from sophomore Molly McGonegle (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) into the back of the Wilson cage. Magee’s goal tied the game at one-all with 13 to play.

But the tie would not remain for long as Wilson’s Megan Dennis scored the game winner less than three minutes later on an unassisted goal.
Vixen keeper senior Cat Cox (Prince Frederick, Md./Calverton) collected seven saves on 12 shots in 70 minutes of action. Sweet Briar honored Cox, the team’s lone senior, before the game as the College welcomed families for Families Weekend.
