A strong team effort on Thursday helped Vixen hockey play visiting Washington and Lee University to a 0-0 tie through the first 43 minutes. The game, however, went to the visitors as the Generals found the cage three times in the final half to win the game 3-0
Washington and Lee’s first two goals went on the board during a two-minute span in the second half. Sallie Armstrong put the first tally up at 43:57, followed by Kay Dyt at 24:47. Junior Guada Suarez rounded out the scoring with a goal in the final three minutes.
Vixen goalies Cat Cox '08 (Prince Frederick, Md./Calverton) and Laura Wolf '11 (Yorklyn, Del./Wilmington Friends) split time in cage for Sweet Briar. Cat turned back 14 saves in just over 45 minutes in the cage. Wolf picked up three saves while allowing one goal during her time in cage.
Sweet Briar remains at home through the weekend. The team hosts non-conference Wilson College on Saturday, followed by Transylvania University on Sunday.
