HOLLINS – Sweet Briar tennis took 12 of 14 matches Sunday as play wrapped up at the Virginia Women’s Invitational Tennis Championship held this weekend at Hollins University.

The Vixens walked away with third in Flights A-C as sophomore Virginia Edahl (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) defeated Mary Sheridan of Hollins 6-1,6-0. Carlyle Eden ’10 (The Plains, Va./Highland School) took her third-place match in Flight B 7-6(8), 7-6(8) and Emily Schutze ’11 (Midlothian, Va./The New Community) rounded out the trio by taking her Flight C third-place game 6-4, 6-2.

A Sweet Briar team also captured third in doubles play. Edahl and Riana Rich ’10 (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) teamed to beat the Hollins team of Sheridan and Robinette 8-3. The pair started the invitiational with a 8-2 win over Jefferson College.
