Two first-half goals helped Sweet Briar soccer down visiting Mary Baldwin College 3-1 Saturday to move the Vixens’ overall record to 2-4.
Kat Alexander ’11 (Marshall, N.C./Carolina Day) got the Vixens on the board in the second minute of play with a one-touch shot off a corner kick from fellow first-year Alexis Hart (New Britain, Conn./New Britain). Alexander barely missed her second goal of the half 17 minutes later, hitting the crossbar with a shot from outside the box. Sophomore Helen Phillips (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage) followed Alexander’s shot, however, and knocked home Sweet Briar’s second goal off the ricochet.

Up 2-0 to start the second frame, Phillips received a pass in the corner and made the cross to Alyssa Stephenson ’11 (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) who found the back of the net with a sliding shot for Sweet Briar’s third tally of the game.
The Vixens carried the 3-0 shutout into the 55th minute, when Mary Baldwin’s Marguerite Cook put up the Fighting Squirrels lone goal.
Sweet Briar is home again on Tuesday, hosting Roanoke College in ODAC action at 4:30 p.m.
