Sweet Briar volleyball captured game one in Saturday’s match before falling 3-1 to cross-town rival Randolph College. The match was the home opener for the Vixens as well as the team's first taste of conference action.

The Vixens battled for the 34-32 win in game one, defending the serve on two game-point situations. A close game two went to the Wildcats 30-24 as did games three and four by scores of 30-24 and 30-26, respectively.

First-years Cassidy Jones (Rustburg, Va./Rustburg) and Ashley Winters (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) combined for 28 kills at the net as Lauren Foster '11 (Evington, Va./Rustburg) collected 40 assists in the match. Foster, Winters, Laura Jett '11 (Littleton, Colo./ThunderRidge) and Meagan Bell '09 (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) all had double-digit dig totals for the match.

Sweet Briar plays host to Washington and Lee Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
