SALEM – Play at the Roanoke College Maroon Classic ended Sunday with the Vixens falling in both their matches. Against Ferrum in match one, Sweet Briar pushed the match to four games as Cassidy Jones ’11 (Rustburg, Va./Rustburg) knocked down a team-best nine kills and added 16 digs on defense. Ashley Winters ’11 (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) was one better with 17 digs. She also added seven kills at the net. Ferrum took the game 15-30, 25-30, 30-23, 25-30.
In match two against Shenandoah, Winters collected 18 more digs. She finished the tournament with 75. Meagan Bell ’09 (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) led the team in hitting percentage and Lauren Foster ’11 (Evington, Va./Rustburg) added 27 assists to her season total as the Vixens fell 20-30, 18-30, 24-30 to the Panthers.
Sweet Briar opens conference play on the road Wednesday at Emory & Henry College. The match gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
