SALEM – Sweet Briar volleyball opened play Saturday at the Roanoke College Maroon Classic facing Methodist University and Mary Baldwin College. The Vixens were unable to topple either opponent falling 27-30, 30-26, 25-30, 22-30 to Methodist and 30-26, 22-30, 17-30, 22-30 to Mary Baldwin.

First-year Ashley Winters (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) led the team in digs and kills, picking up 17 digs on defense and knocking down 13 kills at the net. Laura Foster ‘11 (Evington, Va./Rustburg) captured 31 assist in the four-game match.
Against Mary Baldwin in game two, Winters continued to play strong on defense. She added 23 digs to finish the first day of the Maroon Classic with 40 digs.
Day two kicks off tomorrow with Sweet Briar taking on Ferrum College at 10 a.m. and finishing the tournament with Shenandoah University at 4 p.m.
