Sweet Briar's admissions office is winding down another enrollment season, and the numbers look good.
"Even though it's not quite complete — we still have transfer applicants to admit and enroll — I feel comfortable enough with our numbers to define this as another successful year," Ken Huus, dean of admissions, wrote for the College's upcoming newsletter, @SBC.
According to Huus, as of May 15, his office expects approximately 206 first-year students to arrive on campus in August. That number compares to 190 first-year students arriving last year and 180 two years ago. He also expects to enroll 15 to 18 transfer students for the fall semester, raising the total to an estimated 220 to 225 new students.
"As you can see, Sweet Briar has come a long way in a short period of time," Huus wrote. "In August 2003, we brought in our smallest class in a decade, welcoming 151 total new students to campus. We're not yet to our overall goal of welcoming 240 new students to campus each fall, but we're a whole lot closer than we used to be.
"The College has realized this growth because everyone has gotten involved in playing their part to help prospective students 'see' themselves here. Recruiting is a team effort, and it takes all members of the team working together to achieve success."
