“A Show of Hands,” an exhibit of artwork by Central Virginia high school students, will be on display May 18 through 27 in the Anne Gary Pannell Gallery at Sweet Briar College. The juried art show is open to the public, and admission is free.
This painting by E.C. Glass High School student James Hobson is one of more than 260 on display in "A Show of Hands."The show is the College’s first-ever regional high school art competition and includes more than 260 entries from 13 different schools. Judges consist of Sweet Briar galleries director Rebecca Massie Lane and an SBC studio art professor and student.
An awards ceremony and opening reception for the artists will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 20 at the Pannell Gallery. Cash prizes of up to $200 will be awarded, and The Art Box, an art supply store in Lynchburg, will donate $200 in art supplies to the school with the highest quality of entries.
Gallery hours are 12 to 5 p.m. May 18 through 20, 2 to 5 p.m. May 21 through 24, and 12 to 4 p.m. May 25 through 27. For more information, contact Lane at 381-6248 or
