Endstation Theatre Company, a local theater group that makes it home at Sweet Briar College, will have open rehearsals for their upcoming production at 7:30 p.m. on May 1 and 2 at Murchison Lane Auditorium in Babcock Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.

The troupe is rehearsing for “The Tell-Tale Heart and The Mind of Poe,” an original work created by Endstation and based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. The script draws from Poe’s poetry and short stories, including “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Raven,” “Berenice,” and others.
“Poe’s work lends itself wonderfully to the theatrical space because Poe was so concerned with creating mood and environment for his readers,” artistic director Geoffrey Kershner said. “We in turn can use his wonderful work to create mood and environment for our audiences.”
The play will be presented several times over the next few months, including May 11-13 and May 16-20 at the Renaissance Theatre in Lynchburg. Renaissance also is co-producing the show.
The cast, which includes Sweet Briar students Elizabeth Caldwell ’08 and Brittany Patterson ’09, also will perform July 12-22 at Live Arts in Charlottesville and July 27-29 at the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C.
“We want the community to have the opportunity to see the show during the rehearsal process,” Kershner said. “It will be exciting to see how it grows and evolves as it moves towards its opening at Renaissance.”
An informal discussion will follow the rehearsals.
Kershner has a Master of Fine Arts from the Florida State University School of Theatre. He is an adjunct instructor of theater at Sweet Briar and the son of SBC theater professor Bill Kershner.
