LEXINGTON — The #8-seeded Sweet Briar College Vixens defeated #9 Randolph-Macon College 5-4 Friday morning in the first round of the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Tennis Championships at Washington and Lee University.
As they have throughout the season, Virginia Edahl '10 (Charlotte, NC/Providence) and Blair Blincoe '10 (Vienna, VA/Norfolk Academy) took their doubles match at #1 8-2. Sweet Briar also captured the #2 doubles match with Molly McGonegle '10 (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd Kellam) and Shannon Schalestock '09 (Casanova, VA/Highland School) coming out on top 8-6. Edahl, Blincoe and Schalestock went on to victories in singles action to help Sweet Briar pull out the 5-4 win over the Yellow Jackets.
The win moved the Vixens into the quarterfinal round and a match-up with the #1-seeded Washington and Lee Generals this afternoon. Sweet Briar fell to the Generals in the match 9-0.
Sweet Briar will now face Roanoke College on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the quarterfinal consolation round.
