BRIDGEWATER — A hat trick from Meredith Newman ’09 (Charlottesville, VA/Tandem) and a second-half offensive push were not enough to lift Sweet Briar lacrosse over host Bridgewater Saturday. The Eagles took the conference contest by a score of 9-6.

After being outscored 7-2 in the first half, the Vixen attack began its comeback with three unanswered goals to start the second half. Newman netted the first in the first minute and then added her third of the game with 20 minutes to play. Julie Seller ‘07 (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) followed with her second goal three minutes later to bring the Vixens within three. But the comeback was halted at the three-goal differential as both teams traded goals before the end of regulation to end 9-6 in favor of the Eagles.

Sweet Briar’s next contest is against visiting Methodist College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
