LYNCHBURG — Sweet Briar softball dropped both decisions to the Lynchburg College Hornets Thursday, in a rescheduled Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match up. The Vixens were defeated by scores of 8-3 and 14-0 in the doubleheader.
Sweet Briar’s first of three runs in game one crossed the plate in the fourth inning as Beth Anderson ’08 (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) singled to bring home Krystal Ellis ’08 (Rustburg, VA/Rustburg) who reached base via a walk. The Vixens then added two runs on three hits in the sixth inning. Melissa Viar ’09 (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst County) led off with a double. After a groundout to the pitcher, senior Meagan Chenault (Amherst, VA/Amherst) knocked in Viar with a RBI single. Chenault then came around to score via a double from fellow senior Lynnsey Brown (Houston, TX/Clements).
Hornet pitching in game two held the Vixens to just three hits. Two of the three came in the first inning on a Brittney Berry ’09 (Tappahannock, VA/Essex) base hit to start the game, followed by a double from Chenault. Ellis picked up Sweet Briar’s third hit in the top half of the third inning with a two-out single.
