SWEET BRIAR — Sweet Briar tennis picked up its third win of the season Tuesday, edging visiting Lynchburg College 5-4 in Old Dominion Athletics Conference (ODAC) action.

The win started as a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles play thanks to Sweet Briar wins at #1 and #2. Vixens Virginia Edahl '10 (Charlotte, NC/Providence) and Blair Blincoe '10 (Vienna, VA/Norfolk Academy) captured their match at #1 8-1. At #2 Molly McGonegle '10 (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd Kellam) and Shannon Schalestock ;09 (Casanova, VA/Highland School) teamed to win their match by the score of 8-4.

Edahl and Blincoe then went on to straight-set wins in singles action. Edahl defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 at #1, while Blincoe pushed her win streak to five matches with a 6-1,6-0 at #2.

In the #5 match, Stephanie Nance '09 (Moneta, VA/Staunton River) rebounded from a second-set loss to defeat her opponent in the tie-breaker. She won the match 7-6(4),6-7(4),(10-5) to push Sweet Briar to the match win.

The Vixens are back in action on Sunday as Sweet Briar hosts Emory & Henry College for a 1 p.m. ODAC match.
