DANVILLE – Sweet Briar lacrosse outscored host Averett University 7-3 in the final 10 minutes Monday, to take the non-conference game 13-10 and improve its season mark to 3-9 overall.
A Cougar goal with 11:38 to play tied the match at eight-all, setting the Vixens up for the nail biter win. With the game tied, sophomores Megan Behlre (Manassas, VA/Stonewall Jackson) and Meredith Newman (Charlottesville, VA/Tandem) took control of the Vixen attacked. Each found the net twice in the final 10 minutes to help lead Sweet Briar on to victory.

Behlre put the Vixens ahead 9-8 at the 10:38 mark. Newman followed with back-to-back goals at 9:32 and 7:46. Sarah Goldstein '09 (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) added a free-position goal at 6:32 before Berhle sealed the deal with her fourth goal of the game with 6:19 left on the clock.
The game was a nail biter throughout with neither team able to create more than a one-goal lead until Sweet Briar pulled ahead 10-8 on Newman's goal. She finished with two goals and two assists. Senior Julie Sellers (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) and junior Ellie Donahue (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) had three goals apiece.
Sweet Briar returns to action Wednesday hosting Guilford College at 4:30 p.m.
