Sweet Briar softball walked away with a conference split Sunday, taking one of two games with visiting Virginia Wesleyan College. The Vixens defeated the Marlins 5-2 in game one before suffering a 12-5 loss in game two. The split moves Sweet Briar's overall record to 8-14.
Game one remain tied at 0-0 through three and a half innings before the Vixens jumped on the board with four runs on five hits in the home half of the fourth. Meagan Chenault '07 (Amherst, VA/Amherst County) and Beth Anderson '08 (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) led off the inning with singles. After a ground out, Meagan Bell '09 (Amherst, VA/Amherst County) and Lynnsey Brown '07 (Houston, TX/Clements) both followed with RBI singles to score Chenault and Anderson, respectively. Sarah Maroney's '10 (Santa Clarita, CA/Academy of the Canyons) fly out to centerfield brought home Brown, followed by a Brittney Berry '09 (Tappahannock, VA/Essex) doubled to score Bell. The Vixen scoring was capped at four on a wild pitch, which brought home Brown.
Berry finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Anderson and Bell were both 2-for-3 with a run scored. In the circle, first-years Becca Almond (Spout Spring, VA/Appomattox County) and Nikki Taylor (Wendell, NC/East Wake) each saw work. Almond pitch 5.1 innings for the win, while Taylor went 1.2 for the save.

The Marlins' bats came alive to start game two as five Marlins crossed the plate in the first inning. They finished with 17 hits and a 12-5 win. Bree Strain led Virginia Wesleyan with a 2-for-4 performance, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jess Sacra picked up the win.
Anderson had another stellar performance at the plate for the Vixens. She went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to finish the day 5-for-7 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Sweet Briar hits the road on Thursday, traveling to Randolph-Macon Woman's College for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
