MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Sweet Briar lost a close 6-4 game to Arcadia University Wednesday, as day three of softball got underway in Myrtle Beach. The Vixens strung together three hits in the second inning to plate three runs. They followed in the top of the third with one more, before the Knights tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom half of the inning. Arcadia’s winning two runs came in the fifth and sixth innings thanks to sacrifice flies.
Melissa Viar ’09 (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst County) and Beth Anderson ’08 (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) each went 2-for-4 at the plate against the Knights.
The Vixens came back in game two to hand Russell Sage College a 9-3 loss. Anderson once again led the offense. She went a perfect 3-for-3 in the game with two RBIs. Catcher Brittney Berry ’09 (Tappahannock, VA/Essex) hit her first collegiate home run in the sixth inning.
Becca Almond ’10 (Spout Spring, VA/Appomattox County) went the distance for Sweet Briar. She scattered five hits and struck out seven batters.
The Vixens wrap up the week on Thursday, taking on the University of Charleston and the Villa Julie.
