First-year pitcher Becca Almond (Spout Spring, VA/Appomattox County) pitched a no-hitter Monday, as the Vixens swept visiting Salem College in softball action. Sweet Briar defeated the Spirits by scores of 22-1 and 12-0 to improve its season record to 5-3.

Almond went five innings in the circle in game one, striking out 10 Spirits on the day. The lone Salem run crossed the plate in the fourth inning on an error.
The Vixen bats erupted in game one with 16 hits, including a grand slam from Krystal Ellis '08 (Rustburg, VA/Rustburg). First-year Blair Mullally (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) also hit a home run in the game.
Sweet Briar's bats continued in game two, connecting for 10 hits. Ellis hit her second home run of the day in the second inning, followed in the third by a Beth Anderson '08 (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) dinger.
Righty Nikki Taylor '10 (Wendell, NC/East Wake) went the distance in game two for the win. She picked up her second shutout victory, surrendered one hit in four innings and struck out six.
Ellis finished with four hits, four runs scored and nine RBIs. Senior Meagan Chenault (Amherst, VA/Amherst County) knocked in six Vixen runs.
Softball is in action next week in Myrtle Beach over spring break.
