RADFORD — The Vixens of Sweet Briar College captured eight top-five finishes this weekend on their way to a third-place finish overall and third-place finish in the conference at the 2007 ODAC/Atlantic States meet at Radford.
Sweet Briar finished with 341 points overall, 26 points ahead of fourth-place Agnes Scott. Against ODAC schools, the Vixens tallied 251 points.
The Vixens were particularly strong in relay events taking third on Sunday in the 400 Y. freestyle relay (3:54.74) to finish with five top-five finishes. On Friday, Sweet Briar captured fourth in the 200 Y. freestyle relay (1:49.58) and fifth in the 400 Y. medley relay (4:23.91), followed by third in the 800 Y. freestyle relay (8:32.07) and fourth in the 200 Y. medley relay (1:59.82) on Saturday.
In individual events, first-year Hannah Hesser added another top-five finish on Sunday, taking fifth in the 200 Y. buttefly (2:19.63). She finished her first conference meet with a total of seven top-five finishes.
Sophomore Victoria Goddard (Richmond,VA/Westminster Academy) touched the wall sixth this evening in the 200 Y. backstroke with a time of 2:24.19, while teammate Jennifer Milby ’08 (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis) was ninth (2:25.50) in the event. In the 1650 Y. freestyle, sophomore Stephanie Perks (Warrenton, VA/Falquier) finished in eighth with a time of 19.39.66.
"I am very proud of the way the girls swam during every session this weekend," commented coach Jason Gallaher. "We really stepped it up and swam well."
Sweet Briar, 10-3 overall during the season, had a total of 28 top-20 finishes during the three days of competition.
