Berry's Pinch-Hit Single Leads Softball to Win in Season Opener
MURFREESBORO, NC – Sophomore Brittney Berry’s (Tappahannock, VA/Essex) pinch-hit single in game one helped Sweet Briar softball kicked off the 2007 season with a win Saturday as the Vixens handed host Chowan University a 1-0 loss to open the doubleheader.

Sweet Briar played strong defense behind two pitchers making their first collegiate starts. Nikki Taylor ’10 (Wendell, NC/East Wake) picked up the shutout win in game one, while fellow first-year Becca Almond ’10 (Spout Springs, VA/Appomattox County) suffered a tough 1-0 loss on the mound in game two.

The Vixens continued their opening weekend tomorrow, returning home from North Carolina to face Meredith College at 12:30 p.m.
