ROANOKE — Sweet Briar tennis opened its spring schedule Friday, taking on conference-foe Hollins University in Roanoke. Despite starting the match with a win at #1 doubles, the Vixens fell 7-2 in the match.

At #1 doubles, Vixens Virginia Edahl '10 (Charlotte, NC/Providence) and Blair Blincoe '10 (Vienna, VA/Norfolk Academy) defeated the Hollins team of Barrett and Jones 8-6. Sweet Briar's second win came in the #6 singles match, with Cheryl Seaver '09 (Burtonsville, MD/James Hubert Blake) taking her match 3-6, 6-4, 10-3.

The Vixens sit on a 1-1 overall record on the young season, having defeated Randolph-Macon Woman’s College 9-0 in the fall.

Sweet Briar returns home Wednesday to face preseason favorite Washington and Lee University at 4:30 p.m.
