Stephen CaffreyL.A. Theatre Works is one of the country’s foremost radio theater companies. Its live-performance dramas produced for radio air weekly on several public broadcast and satellite stations. The company also tours, bringing its unusual style of performing to local audiences. Using such elements as a sound effects artist on stage, LATW will present Coward’s enduringly popular 1930s comedy as though for the radio.
Insightful, biting and witty, “Private Lives” revolves around a divorced couple who reunite while honeymooning with their new spouses, and end up running off to resume their tempestuous relationship.
Kathryn MeisleLATW’s Susan Albert Loewenberg is the producing director for the Sweet Briar performance. Barring unavoidable changes to the performers’ production schedules, primary roles will be played by Tony-nominated stage and television actress Kathryn Meisle (“NYPD Blue,” “Law and Order,” “CSI Miami,” “Oz,” “The Guardian”) and well-known television character actor Stephen Caffrey (“Chicago Hope,” “Diagnosis Murder,” “Alias,” “The Practice,” “Seinfeld,” “Judging Amy,” “Providence”).
Also, at 5 p.m. on Jan. 30, L.A. Theatre Works will hold an “Inside Acting” panel discussion in the Babcock Fine Arts Center’s black box theater. The discussion is free and open to the public.
