Roanoke, VA - The Sweet Briar swimming team turned in its best racing of the season to down host Hollins University 153-94, and evened its ODAC record at 2-2. The Vixens swept the 1000 yard freestyle, with Stephanie Perks '09 (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier), Sarah Murphy '10 (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point), and Catherine Gumpman '10 (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) finishing 1-2-3.
First year Hannah Hesser (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) took the 50, 200 and 500 freestyle events and teammate Victoria Marshall '10 (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) finished first in the 100 free. Kelly Cuddihy '10 (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) won both the 100 and 200 yard butterfly, while sophomore Victoria Goddard (Richmond, VA/Westminster Academy) touched first in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. Goddard also turned in the fastest time in the 200 individual medley swimming exhibition.
The Sweet Briar team of Jennifer Milby '09 (Mechanicsville, VA/Lee-Davis), Cuddihy, Kelsey Jeffers '07 (Falls Church, VA/Falls Church) and Brittany Carlton '08 (Warrenton, VA/Highland) took the 400 medley relay and Hesser, Marshall, Carlton and Goddard won the 400 freestyle relay.
Coach Jason Gallaher said, "This was by far our best effort of the season." Sweet Briar improves to 5-2 overall, 2-2 in the ODAC, and will swim Randolph-Macon Woman's College away on Wednesday.
