Vixen Swimming swept its tri-meet with non-conference Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and Greensboro College Saturday in Sweet Briar’s first home meet of the season. Scores in the meet were Sweet Briar on top of VMI 103-11, Sweet Briar on top of Greensboro 72-49 and Greensboro topping VMI 77-27.
The Vixens captured six of the 14 events Saturday, including the 200 M. freestyle, 100 M. breaststroke, and the 200 M. breaststroke in which Sweet Briar finished first and second.
In individual events, sophomores Kelly Cuddihy (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) and Stephanie Perks (Warrenton, VA/Falquier) led the way with two first-place finishes each. Cuddihy swept the breaststroke events, touching the wall first in the 100 M. with a time of 1:25.34 and taking the 200 M. in 3:08.67. Perks won the 200 M. (2:27.62) and 400 M. freestyle (5:09.76) races.
First-year Hannah Hesser (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) captured the 800 M. freestyle for the Vixens with a time of 10:11.46. She was also a member of the first-place 200 M. freestyle relay team (2:02.47). Swimming with Hesser on the relay were Tori Marshall ’10 (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham), Victoria Goddard ’09 (Richmond, VA/Westminster Academy) and Brittany Carlton ’08 (Warrenton, VA/Highland).
Sweet Briar returns to the pool tomorrow, completing its short home meet schedule, hosting a conference tri-meet with Washington and Lee University and Emory & Henry College.
