The Sweet Briar Honors Program will host neurologist and visiting scholar Dr. Allitia Dibernardo at its next colloquia series presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 in the Cochran Library Browsing Room. Dibernardo will present “The Neurology of the Senses: From Percepts to Sensation.” All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.
DiBernardo is the Harvard Scholar in Clinical Research at Harvard Medical School. She earned her M.D. in 1999 at the University of Pittsburgh School Medicine, and was a resident in neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2000-03. Since then she has been a fellow in neurophysiology and laboratory research fellow in neurology at Massachusetts General and Harvard Medical School respectively.
Each year honors colloquia offer the entire campus community opportunities to engage in academic discourse outside of the classroom. Sweet Briar faculty, as well as visiting scholars, present research talks in all academic disciplines. The informal presentations are meant to encourage discussion among participants.
For the past several years the Honors Program has selected a single concept to consider across the disciplines, to examine the different meanings attached to a word or phrase when viewed through the varying perspectives of the sciences, the arts and the humanities. This year, the college community is invited to think about the concept of “The Senses” across the liberal arts spectrum.
