LYNCHBURG — Sweet Briar’s season ended in the quarterfinal round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament Saturday, as the eighth-seeded Vixens fell 9-0 to the top-seeded Hornets of Lynchburg College.
Playing on Lynchburg’s newly installed field turf and in windy conditions, the Vixen defense defended against 48 shots in the contest. Goalie Cat Cox ’08 (Prince Frederick, MD/Calverton) turned back 18 of those shots to finish her first season between the pipes with 182 saves. Ann-Gordon Bennett ’10 (Locust Hill, VA/Christchurch) stopped one Hornet shot to pick up a defensive save.
Sweet Briar, who graduates just one senior in May, finishes the 2006 campaign with a 2-13 overall record and a 1-7 mark in the ODAC.
