On Saturday, Oct. 21, the Sweet Briar Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team headed off to Hollins University for its second show of the season.
In attendance were Laeun Sung ’08, Alison Carr ’08, Alison Sims ’09, Katie Davilli ’09, Katie Bird ’09, Nicole Jackson ’09, Paige Kaylor ’10, Kristin Dillon ’10 and Mollie Linden ’10.
The day started off cold, but it slowly warmed up and so did the Vixens. The first class of the day was Open Fences, in which Sims put in a solid round and earned a second-place finish for the team. Davilli followed suit in her Intermediate Fences class by also earning a red ribbon for the team. Bird placed third in Novice Fences, which left the team in good standing before the start of the flat classes.
In the two sections of Open Flat, Linden took third place in her class and Davilli second in hers. In the two Intermediate Flat sections, Dillon placed fourth in her class and Carr earned a third-place spot. SBC’s only Novice Flat rider for the day, Kaylor, won her class, while Sung, riding for Sweet Briar in the Walk/Trotter class, was second.
By the end of the day Sweet Briar had earned 35 total points — enough to win the high-point team award. Behind Sweet Briar was Randolph-Macon Woman’s College with 31 points. The Vixen’s finish allowed them to move up from fifth to second place in the region’s overall point standings.
It was a great end to the day and the team looks forward to keeping up the momentum for the next show on Friday, Oct. 27 at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College.
