For the first time in three years the weather cooperated so that the annual Sweet Briar Hunter Trials could be held in the beautiful field below Monument Hill. Families and friends gathered at the top of the hill to watch the riders canter their horses up and down hill over coops, banks and brush jumps.

Meredith Newman ’09 captured the Green Division’s reserve championship in their first hunter trial outing.
Katie Davilli with the Margery Babcock Trophy.Davilli and Hatrick continued their winning ways by taking the blue ribbon in the Open Equitation Class. Davilli’s performance throughout the day impressed judge Susan Sjolund, who awarded her the Margery Babcock (SBC ’49) Perpetual Trophy that honors the rider who demonstrates the best horsemanship riding cross-country.
Jenny Walkiewicz ’09 rode to victory in the Handy Hunter class on SBC’s Woodstock. Their overall performance led the judge to award SBC’s Woodstock the “Executive Challenge Trophy.” This trophy was donated by students at Sweet Briar College in memory of the good hunting horse “Executive” and is presented to the horse that the judge feels best meets the qualities of a good hunt horse.

Horse Show being held at the Virginia Horse Center.
Alison Sims ’09, representing the Hunter Show Team, captured the championship in the Adult Hunter Division riding SBC’s Renaissance.
Jessica Leonardi ’07, also a Hunter Show Team rider, finished third out of the 21 riders competing in the Adult Hunters showing SBC’s Lindros.
All in all it was a very rewarding weekend for Sweet Briar riders.
