In the new edition of the Princeton Review’s annual guidebook, “Best 361 Colleges,” Sweet Briar College is ranked in four top-20 category lists including “Most Beautiful Campus” and “Professors Make Themselves Accessible.”
In the student-based survey, Sweet Briar came in at No. 3 for “Most Beautiful Campus” and No. 7 for “Professors that Make Themselves Accessible,” leading all women’s colleges in that category. For “Class Discussions Encouraged” and “Dorms Like Palaces,” Sweet Briar was ranked No. 10 and No. 12, respectively.
Although pleased by the “Most Beautiful” ranking, Sweet Briar President Elisabeth Muhlenfeld finds those in the academic categories most satisfying.
“It is fun to see Sweet Briar’s campus ranked as among the nation’s most beautiful, but those accolades that impact academic life are most gratifying,” she said. “Students rank our professors accessible and encouraging of class discussion — two markers of a campus where students are deeply engaged in learning.”
The Princeton Review survey asks students 80 questions about their school’s academics, campus life, and student body, as well as their study hours, politics and opinions. This edition’s rankings are based on surveys of 115,000 students on 361 college campuses during the 2005-06 year and/or previous two school years.
