Senior Shaheen Moosa and Jacquelyn Wilkins, a 2003 graduate who is enrolled as a post-baccalaureate student, kicked off Sweet Briar’s 2006 Honors Summer Research Program student presentations July 5 with an examination of Nietzsche’s book “On the Genealogy of Morality” and a look at masculinity in the civic and religious rituals in Ancient Athens respectively.
These and other subjects ranging from junior Fatima Lbida’s analysis of a nearly four-decade-old conflict in the Western Sahara to senior Kendra Hawkins’ “Toxic Treats: Those Yummy New Cancer Drugs” will be explored during a series of mid-day presentations through July 13. Lunch is provided for program participants, and all others are welcome to bring lunch and attend the forums.
The Honors Summer Research Program offers fellowships each year to a select group of students for independent research projects supervised by a Sweet Briar faculty member. The students follow eight weeks of intense work with a presentation highlighting their research and their methodologies. This year’s participants also include Ferrell Lyles ’07, Carlina Muglia ’07, Rachel Reynolds ’07, Erin Rogers ’08, Adlyn Perez-Figueroa ’08 and Liz Killiam ’08.
