“The Da Vinci Code” author Dan Brown doesn’t know anything about Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalen that Sweet Briar’s Chris Witcombe wasn’t already onto.
Witcombe, a professor of art history, will speak on the subject at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington. In his talk, “Jesus and Mary, Leonardo and Dan Brown: A New Look at ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ ” he explores some of the claims made in Brown’s novel concerning Jesus and Mary Magdalen, and the secrets concealed in the art and writings of Leonardo da Vinci.
Witcombe is a specialist in Italian Renaissance art and a Mary Magdalen scholar, having lectured and written about her over the past 15 years as well as about 16th-century Venice and Rome.
