Three retired members of the Sweet Briar College faculty were awarded emeritus status by the SBC board of directors at their April meeting. They are George H. Lenz, Diane Moran and Lee Piepho.
Lenz was a Whitney-Guion Professor of Physics. He served on Sweet Briar’s faculty from 1971 to 2005, and was dean of the College from 1990 to 2001. He earned a Ph.D. in physics from Rutgers University.
Moran, a professor of art history, was on the SBC faculty from 1977 to 2005. She earned a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Virginia.
Piepho served as a Sara Shallenberg Brown Professor of English from 1969 to 2005. He earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia.
To be considered for emeritus status, a faculty member must meet the following criteria: they must have retired; served the College as a full-time faculty member for 15 years or more, and they must hold the appropriate terminal degree in their field.
