SWEET BRIAR – It took Sweet Briar two different locations Tuesday, to defeat visiting Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in conference tennis action. The win is the first of the spring for the Vixens.
With the match tied at 4-4, darkness forced the #5 match between Stephanie Nance (Moneta, VA/Staunton River) and Brittni VanCuren to move under the lights at Amherst Middle School. Nance came back from a second-set loss to win in a 10-point tiebreaker and give Sweet Briar the 5-4 win.
The Vixens led 1-0 after doubles, as the team of Cheryl Seaver (Burtonsville, MD/James Hubert Blake) and Michelle Raymond (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) took a 9-7 win at #3 doubles. Off the doubles win, Sweet Briar went on to win four of six singles matches. In addition to Nance, Caroline Byrd (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) won at #2 singles, Riana Rich (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) took #3 singles and Kate Skafidas (South Berwick, ME/Berwick Academy) won at #6 singles.
